WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) - Tom Brady thinks training camp is easier for him at 40 than it was when he entered the NFL. Brady, who turned 40 on Aug. 3, was asked how camp with the New England Patriots is different for him now that he's one of the older players in the league.

BOSTON (AP) - Mookie Betts lined a two-run double off the left-field wall with two outs in the ninth inning, capping a three-run rally that lifted the Boston Red Sox to a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Xander Bogaerts hit a solo homer for the AL East-leading Red Sox, who won for the 12th time in 14 games and maintained their 4 1/2-game lead over the second-place New York Yankees.

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) - Like baseball with some offensive firepower? The Little League World Series will likely showcase that starting Thursday. The 16 teams competing at the 71st annual tournament have some gaudy statistics. The Mid-Atlantic team from Jackson, New Jersey, averaged nearly 11 runs across four regional games. South Korea outscored opponents 45-2 in its regional games and Japan averaged 13 runs a game.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A former boxing promoter, ex-college basketball coach and founder of a Rhode Island-based sport institute who was convicted of embezzlement is seeking to be released from prison while he awaits the outcome of his appeal. Dan Doyle filed with the state Supreme Court on Wednesday a motion for bail, which is expected to be considered Sept. 7. Investigators say Doyle embezzled $1.1 million from the Institute for International Sport, where his lawyers say he invested hundreds of thousands of dollars.

ESSEX, Vt. (AP) - A whiffle ball tournament in its 16th year has raised over $500,000 for people with spinal cord injuries _ the second-highest collection in the tournament's history. The Travis Roy Foundation Wiffle Ball Tournament is held annually in Essex and was played over last weekend. The Burlington Free Press reports the event was held at the home of Essex resident's Pat and Beth O'Connor _ who have three backyard fields.
