Baystate Franklin nurses protest in public

GREENFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

In Greenfield, nurses from Baystate Franklin Medical Center took to the streets Saturday morning, frustrated with their working conditions.

The nurses, who tell CBS 3 that they are currently bargaining for a new contract with the hospital, feel their needs are not being met in regards to overtime, health insurance, and having to work while sick.

With negotiations deadlocked, the union says it was time to take their message to the public.

"We know that patients want safe care. We know their families want them to be cared for safely," said Linda Judd, member of the nurses' union.  "They don't want sick nurses taking care of their loved ones and we don't want to be there sick taking care of them. It's not right for anybody. It doesn't help anyone."

The union hopes by getting their message out, those who need or use the hospital services will call and show their support of the nurses to the to hospital management.
