James Ihedigbo hosts football camp in Amherst

Posted: Updated:

An NFL player is back in his hometown of Amherst, teaching the game he plays to the next generation.

James Ihedigbo, who was so close to winning a Super Bowl with the Patriots last season, hosted his spring football invitational at Groff Park.

Athletes from Amherst, Commerce and Central High Schools played scrimmages with Ihedigbo teaching them some of the x's and o's, and also showing them how to have some fun.

"I wanted to do something where I could come back to Amherst, where I grew up, and give these kids something I didn't have growing up in this area, which is an NFL role model that could come back and teach them some things of the game," says Ihedigbo.

Ihedigbo is not a member of the Patriots right now; he's a free agent. It's still very possible New England will re-sign Ihedigbo, though he says he's happy to play anywhere. He still has a soft spot for the Pats.

"It's a great organization. Who wouldn't want to play there? Hometown team. I haven't had more fun playing on an NFL team than playing for the Pats, so hopefully it works out, but at the end of the day, I know I'm going to be exactly where God intends me to be so that's what's most important," said Ihedigbo.
