Multiple school buses involved in Palmer accident

Posted: Updated:

Three school buses have been involved in an accident in Palmer.

The chain reaction crash happened just after 2 p.m. on Thorndike Street near the Mass Pike on-ramp. The three buses were headed from Converse Middle School to Palmer High School when the crash happened.

47 students were on board the three buses. 14 were taken area hospitals with minor neck and back injuries.

26 students were picked up by their parents at the scene of the accident. Eight more were driven back to Converse Middle School by the bus company, where their parents picked them up. One fifth grader described the accident.

"Me and my friends we were all the way in the back, there was glass shattered everywhere, we were wobbling and like swerving," said Demarco Santana.

Ambulances from Palmer, Warren, and Ware responded to the crash. State Police trucking crews are on scene to investigate possible mechanical issues with the buses.

Palmer school officials say that safety is their number one priority and the crashes are making them re-visit the idea of seat belts on school buses.
