Hampden County real estate looking up

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Hampden County's real estate market is looking up.

On Wednesday, Register of Deeds Donald Ashe announced the real estate market is seeing improvement.

The amount of money spent on real estate was more than $960 million. This figure is up 11 percent from last year.

Ashe says the real estate market and house prices can only continue to improve as the economy stabilizes.

"It all relies on jobs. Once the unemployment reaches more of a sustainable figure, such as 5 to 6 percent, then things will be a lot better," said Ashe.

Ashe also said economists believe the unemployment rate will not reach this level for another four years.
