Springfield man throws infant before running from police

Posted: Updated:

A Springfield man is facing multiple charges after allegedly throwing an infant before running from police.

Police said they approached 24-year-old Edwin Perez at his Plainfield Street home after hearing he might be carrying a weapon.

Perez sat on his front porch with an infant on his lap as Massachusetts State Troopers approached him.

He allegedly threw the infant to the ground before taking off on foot.

Troopers wrestled him to the ground and put him under arrest. They said Perez was carrying a 9mm Smith and Wesson that was stolen from Hartford, CT.

The infant was taken to the hospital and was treated for minor injuries before being released.

Perez now faces multiple stolen weapons charges and police are investigating whether to charge him with assault and battery on an infant.
