Four weeks from Tuesday, the people of the state of Massachusetts will decide if Sen. Scott Brown will continue to serve in our nation's capitol or if it will be his Democratic challenger, Elizabeth Warren.
A new Western New England University poll released Sunday, in conjunction with our media partner Mass Live and The Republican, shows that Warren continues to hold a lead over Brown.
Three weeks ago, in their previous poll, Warren was up by six points.
That lead has shrunk to five points.
But according to Polling Institute Director Tim Vercellotti, there is more at play than just the five-point margin.
"On the surface, the race seems pretty stable," said Vercellotti. "But beneath the surface, all sorts of changes are occurring. We see that Elizabeth Warren's support among women has gone up quite a bit. Brown, in turn, has seen his support go up quite a bit among men. He now has an 18-point lead. He had a five-point lead three weeks ago."
Vercellotti adds that in order for Brown to win the election, he has to continue to pick up independent voters.
That is something that has started to go in his favor.
With two more debates left and 22 percent of independent voters saying they could change their minds, the race is still very close.
Vercellotti said they will have one more poll released prior to the election.
