Northwestern D.A. receives $300,000 grant for domestic violence task force

Posted: Updated:

The Northwestern District Attorney's Office has received a $300,000 federal grant to help continue the efforts of its Domestic Violence High Risk Team.

The grant comes from the United States Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women. It was secured with the help of the Northampton mayor's office and police department.

The Domestic Violence High Risk team was started in 2010 to combat a district-wide increase in serious domestic violence offenses. The grant will fund a full-time coordinator position, a victim/witness advocate and a part-time domestic violence prosecutor.

"This is a project that has a substantial impact in the community," said Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan. "With all of these entities working together, we are better able to identify high risk cases, hold offenders accountable and strengthen victim safety."
