Westfield mother in Virginia court, awaiting extradition

Posted: Updated:

CBS 3 Springfield is following developing news out of Virginia where a Westfield woman will remain in jail pending her extradition to Massachusetts.

In October, Cheryl Kozaczek sparked an AMBER alert after police say she took her 3-month-old daughter in the early morning hours.

Later that day, Kozaczek was arrested in Emporia, VA.

Thursday, she stood in a courtroom sentenced to 12 months in jail on a misdemeanor charge after pleading guilty.

Two felony charges against her, including child endangerment, were dropped.

Eleven months of her sentence were suspended, she'll be on probation for three years and must pay court costs.

The state has until Jan. 28 to extradite her. She will remain in jail until then.

Her daughter remains in foster care.
