Wilbraham residents concerned following break-ins

Posted: Updated:

Police say a recent string of break-ins started earlier this week, and it appears that there have been as many as four incidents so far.

The suspects entered both homes and cars, and the common theme is that doors were not locked.

"This is a shock to us," said Jennifer Nordstrom, who has lived in the area for close to four years. "I think it is a wake-up call that you can not really trust anywhere you live right now."

Nordstrom knows the families who have been victims in the recent break-ins and said it is not an easy time for them.

"They are taking all of the steps to make sure this does not occur again," said Nordstrom. "They are adding extra safety measures to their homes. It is a very emotional and disturbing thing to have your home invaded."

Sgt. Glen Clark told CBS 3 that the Wilbraham Police Department is currently investigating the break-ins that have happened in the area of Maplewood Drive.

What makes the situations even scarier for those involved is that they are happening in the early morning hours when people are home sleeping.

"That is why it is so important for Wilbraham, and any community, to lock your doors, your vehicles, keep your garage doors closed, and keep the exterior lights on outside," said Clark.

Nordstrom said the sergeant's advice is something her neighborhood has taken to heart.

"You might think I'm not going to double-check," said Nordstrom. "Check every door, every window, every night. People are out right now and they are hot, going from house to house, so do not take any chances."

Clark said the burglars are taking whatever they can get their hands on that can easily be pawned off.
