Habitat for Humanity participates in Valley Gives

Posted: Updated:

As part of Valley Gives, the Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity was gift wrapping for a good cause Wednesday night at the Eastfield Mall.

Gifts were wrapped for free, but shoppers donated to the local mission who help to build homes for those who need a hand-up.

CBS 3 Springfield's Cherise Leclerc was wrapping presents as a celebrity gift wrapper along with John O'Brien from the Rock 102 morning show Bax and O'Brien.

Those with Habitat for Humanity say that Wednesday night's event can help them get the funds they need to help build homes.

"We're trying to raise some money for local families in need of simple, decent, affordable shelter. We have a gift wrapping booth here in the mall we've been using for almost 20 years so tonight we thought would be a good night to get some people to come out," said Jennifer Schimmel, the executive director.

The Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity has been around for 25 years. They hope to raise thousands of dollars from Valley Gives.
