More than 30 arrested in Ware's Operation Crackdown

Posted: Updated:

One after another the dozens arrested as part of the Ware Police Department's Operation Crackdown stood before a judge Monday morning.

The police department issued arrest warrants for around 40 on Saturday after the year-and-a-half long undercover operation that was targeting people illegally distributing drugs within the town.

"It involved the use of an undercover police officer and the documentation of all his buys to various drug targets throughout the town," said Ware police chief, Dennis Healey.

So far more than 30 have been arrested as part of the drug sweep.

This isn't the first time the police department has taken part in this operation, but Healey says there was one key difference this time.

"In the last Operation Crackdown approximately three years ago, I would say a majority of the cases involved cocaine or crack cocaine," Healey said. "Over the last several years we've noticed a tremendous increase in the amount of prescription drugs and also heroin. There's been a big increase in the amount of heroin and the majority of the targets in this operation involved heroin use."

And even though police are calling this operation a success, they're warning drug dealers that there will be more operations like this one in the future.

"We'd like to keep the persons illegally dealing drugs in the town on their toes," Healey said. "So yes, it is a neverending process."

Police will continue to search for the other remaining suspects. As for those arraigned today most are due back in court on the 12th or 14th of next month.
