MGM prepares documents for Thursday deadline

Posted: Updated:

Thursday marks another deadline in Springfield's casino process.

Both developers interested in building in the city, MGM Resorts International and Penn National Gaming, must have their detailed proposals in to City Hall.

MGM's Main Street offices were buzzing with activity Wednesday afternoon as employees packaged up detailed boxes filled with information on traffic issues, impact on residents and local businesses.

In total, there are 18 boxes, each of them weighing around 45 pounds.

Inside there are 700 pages worth of documents, graphs and pictures detailing MGM's proposals.

On the inside cover there is a video flash drive showing a virtual flyover of the proposal.

MGM reps say that this has taken hundreds of hours of manpower.

They've been working on this proposal since early November, taking two weeks to design how they would display it.

Production has taken about five days.

But MGM reps say that Thursday they're eager to deliver all 18 boxes to City Hall.

"We're really excited about what we're delivering. It's very comprehensive, it's very detailed, it represents many months of on-the-ground conversations with the community. So we're very confident that as high as the expectations should be for a package like this, that we're going to exceed them," said Vice President of Global Gaming Development Michael Mathis.

Penn National will be assembling a similar report to hand in to City Hall on Thursday.

Every casino operator must also pay a $400,000 fee to the state gaming commission by Jan. 15.

MGM and Penn National have paid that fee.

Mohegan Sun, which is interested in Palmer, has not yet paid it.
