Springfield PD searching for home invasion suspects

Posted: Updated:

Springfield police are still searching for two masked men that they say broke into a Springfield home and pistol-whipped a woman Thursday night in a home invasion.

It happened at 31 Fenwick Street off Wilbraham Road around 10 p.m.

That woman had to be sent to the hospital. She has since been treated and released.

Friday morning neighbors that live near the home that was broken into were surprised to hear something like a home invasion happened on their quiet street.

"For the most part it's usually a pretty safe area," said Kenneth Charles, who lives nearby.

Police converged on the area in the minutes following reports of the invasion.

By then the two men, described as wearing black masks, had fled.

Police followed tracks but so far aren't getting much cooperation from neighbors.

But police say that the two were looking for something specific when they broke into the home, and neighbors shouldn't worry about the same thing happening to them.

"This is not something that is random by any means. People in the neighborhood shouldn't fear that their houses are going to be broken into," said Sgt. John Delaney of the Springfield Police Department.

Still, parents like Charles say they'll keep an eye out.

"I guess we're going to have to try and stick together and do a lot more walk around and get people more involved in the area to help keep people safe," Charles said.

Police are still searching for the two men involved.
