The missing child was found outside this barber shop on Thursday morning.
NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -
The New Haven Police Department said a 10-year-old boy that had been missing since Wednesday afternoon has been found by two vigilant barbers.
According to police, two barbers, identified as Michael Cuevas and Luis Rivera, were working inside the Xplicit Barber Shop at 314 Grand Ave., around 10:45 a.m. when they said they spotted Jacob Wilson walk by.
They said they had seen Jacob's photo on the news and realized it was the boy that a Silver Alert had been issued for.
Cuevas and Rivera said Jacob began to run down the street when they approached him, and when they finally caught up to him they brought him back to their barber shop and called police.
New Haven police said they issued the Silver Alert on Wednesday night after Jacob never returned from school. Police said he was last seen leaving the Troup Middle School on Edgewood Avenue on foot just before 3 p.m.
Police said Wilson often spends time at the library downtown and that was one of the first locations officers checked, but he was nowhere to be found. In addition to checking the library, police said they also searched around his school and his Sylvan Avenue home.
Police said a Silver Alert was issued because Amber Alerts are only used when a child is kidnapped, which is not what they believed happened in this case.
Police said Jacob had no history of running away and didn't have a cell phone that could have been pinged to help locate him.
Jacob was brought to police headquarters in New Haven where the circumstances surrounding his disappearance were investigated, and he has since been reunited with his father.
