Fires cause two vacant Springfield apartment buildings to be demolished

Posted: Updated:

Two vacant apartment buildings in Springfield are being torn down after three fires started there in the last week.

A demolition crew joined firefighters today on Locust Street where a suspicious fire ripped through one building yesterday.  Firefighters were on the scene through the night to prevent the flames from starting again.

This same building caught on fire Sunday.

There was a major fire Tuesday, Jan. 15, at a building nearby.

City officials are demolishing both because of the damage and safety hazards.
