Springfield city councilor helps with tax abatement

Posted: Updated:

Residents interested in tax abatement for their homes had an easy way to get their hands on the proper paperwork Saturday.

City Councilor John Lysak set up shop inside the Myrtle Street Park building in Indian Orchard.

The abatement process allows residents to have their property re-assessed when they believe their property value is too high.

Lysak told CBS 3 the lower the value, the more money a resident can save on taxes.

Lysak's goal was to help residents who may not have access to the internet or an easy way to get to City Hall.
