A house in Gilbert was severely damaged by fire Friday morning.
A passer-by called 911 after seeing the fire about 6 a.m. at the home near Gilbert and Elliott roads, according to Capt. Mark Justus of the Gilbert Fire Department.
Firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof to ventilate toxic gases, but no injuries were reported, Justus said.
No one was home when the fire broke out, Justus said.
The fire's cause had not been determined.
No other information was immediately available.
