BATON ROUGE – A record 13 LSU football players are set to take part in the annual NFL Combine starting on Saturday and running through Tuesday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The NFL Combine will be televised live each day on the NFL Network and streamed on the internet at NFL.com/combine. The combine will put 300 college players through a series of drills, tests, workouts and interviews in what is called a job interview with potential NFL teams.
The list of Tigers taking part in the NFL Combine include eight defensive players (DE Lavar Edwards, DT Bennie Logan, CB Tyrann Mathieu, DE Barkevious Mingo, LB Kevin Minter, DE Sam Montgomery, S Eric Reid, and CB Tharold Simon), four offensive players (OT Chris Faulk, RB Michael Ford, C P.J. Lonergan, and RB Spencer Ware) and one specialist (P Brad Wing).
The combine starts on Saturday with the tight ends, offensive linemen and specialists going through the process, followed by quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers on Sunday, defensive linemen and linebackers on Monday and the defensive backs on Tuesday.
Players will be put through a series of tests, including the much-publicized 40-yard dash and the 225-pound bench press. They will also be measured in the vertical jump, the broad jump, the 3-cone drill and the shuttle run.
Once that testing is done, then players will be put through a variety of positional workouts which will simulate the types of drills done during a typical NFL practice.
Off the field, players go through interviews with each NFL team that can cover any subject as the teams try to determine if a player is ready for the NFL.
Following the NFL Combine, the 13 Tigers will then get ready for LSU's Pro Day, which will be held on Wednesday, March 27 on campus. The NFL Draft will take place on April 25-27 in New York City.
