Public casino presentations to be held at CityStage

Posted: Updated:

The two casino developers interested in building in Springfield will be meeting at CityStage for a second time next week for a public presentation to focus on traffic and entertainment concerns.

The event will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 11.

"I think that it is time to present two very important casino related subjects to the public," said Springfield Chief Development Officer Kevin Kennedy. "And, that's about entertainment and traffic, two very critical components to any development of this nature."

Next week's presentations will moderated by the city's casino consultants Shefsky and Froelich and will be heard in front of a panel including representatives from the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau the city's DPW and traffic consultants.

"This continues our full transparency on this potentially one billion dollar economic development project here in the city of Springfield," said Mayor Domenic Sarno.

The public event is an opportunity for both companies to provide clarifications the two areas.

"I think everybody wants to know how the traffic is going to flow," said Kennedy. "How are you going to get into the casino? How are you going to get out of the casino? What effect on city streets is it going to have? So, those are the important things from traffic. The other issue has to do with entertainment, dining, tourism, all those kinds of things."

Following the presentations city officials plan to begin negotiating host agreements with both companies.

"Our first negotiating session is planned for the night of the twelfth," said Kennedy. "And, the casino operators will also be appearing before city council on the night of the twelfth."
