According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, Monday afternoon, the Springfield Police Department responded to a report of a verbal altercations in which threats were made and a knife was shown.

Officers placed a report on the altercation and left the scene.

Nearly two hours later, a 911 call was made reporting a shooting in the vicinity of Bay St. and Berkshire Ave.

According to Springfield police, a woman was waiting at the bus stop at the corner of Berkshire Avenue and Bay Street when the two men approached the group that police say was involved in the earlier altercation.  One of the men pulled out his firearm and shot at the group which resulted in the woman being shot in her thigh.

The same officers responded to this call and showed up to find the victim sitting on a front porch of 312 Berkshire Ave with a gun shot wound to the thigh.

Springfield police confirmed the female victim had been involved in the altercation the officers responded to earlier Monday afternoon.

Police say the officers immediately gave first aid to the woman as they waited for the ambulance to arrive.

During this time, witnesses provided full descriptions of the two shooters and told police that the two armed dangerous subjects had run to 29 William Sands Jr. Road.

Delaney tells us Police surrounded the residence and spotted two males that matched the description the witnesses had given.

The two suspects were positively identified by many witnesses including the victim.  Dewbury and Toles have been held on many charges including assault with intent to murder and discharge of a firearm.

The woman was taken to Baystate Medical and is expected to be ok.
