A new letter-writing campaign is the latest step students and parents are taking in their effort to stop the closure of the New Leadership Charter School at the end of this school year.
The students sent around 500 letters to state leaders on Friday, voicing what they call their displeasure with the school's planned closure. The letters are being sent to key state legislators including Gov. Deval Patrick and Secretary of Education Matthew Malone.
New Leadership serves more than 500 students from sixth grade through 12th grade.
In January, school leaders decided not to renew the school's charter following a recommendation from the state.
