Posted: Updated:

Hard Rock International is set to unveil their traffic plans for their proposed West Springfield casino Wednesday evening.

Mark Rivers who is the President of the Bronson Companies who is serving as Hard Rock's development consultants tells CBS 3 that traffic is one of the casino operator's top priorities.

"We see this as tackling something that may be viewed as a negative and really turning it into a positive," said Rivers.

Rivers says they have been working for months with local and regional consultants as well as national experts to make sure they are able to present the best plans possible for the community.

"We think this is a good program, it's a solid and comprehensive program," said Rivers.

Hard Rock wants to build a $700 million to $800 million resort style casino on the grounds of the Eastern State's Exposition.

Since the announcement of their proposal, a top concern has been traffic on Memorial Avenue. And Rivers says their plans will create a secondary way in and out of the campus that is not on that street.

"Among our many commitments in this entire process is to this Route 5 relief valve, which we think will actually alleviate congestion in all sorts of different places," said Rivers.

Rivers says that three properties alongside the Big E that Hard Rock has recently taken out the options to buy will help the company to make their traffic plans possible. Those plots of land totaling almost 20 acres are all located on Circuit Avenue.

Additional details Rivers provided about the plans included their company's intentions to widen lanes and improve turning lanes on Memorial Ave.

The company will detail their projections in terms of visitors to the casino and the impact that would on have traffic.

"You know one of the most important numbers that we can convey is that when you looks at the eastern states and you look at the big e fair 17 days 1 point 3 million visitors our projections on the casino resort property 4 million visitors over 365 days," said Rivers.

The traffic plans will officials be unveiled at 5:30 at the Mayor's casino advisory committee meeting.
