Springfield taking precautions in light of Boston manhunt

Posted: Updated:

As the search for a suspect in the Boston bombings continues, tensions can be felt across the state.

Here in Western Mass, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno says he is not taking any chances.

"There's heightened patrols out there, increased patrol areas, a K-9 unit is in effect 24/7 on three shifts," said Sarno.

The mayor is asking residents to be vigilant.

Over the past few days there have been many threats in the area and all have turned out to be nothing. However, the mayor is asking all residents to be on the lookout and to alert authorities if you see something that appears to be suspicious.

Sarno says that officials in Springfield are lending a helping hand whenever they can to Boston. He said yesterday, several Springfield officers were sent to the city to help with the president's visit.
