Rebuilding Together Springfield renovates Tyler Street

Posted: Updated:

It is hard to argue that any cleanup project in Western Mass this weekend was bigger than what took place Saturday on Tyler Street.

In honor of their National Rebuilding Day, Rebuilding Together Springfield worked on 25 homes in the Old Hill neighborhood.

Dozens of sponsors and nearly 1,000 volunteers worked from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Organizers and homeowners were impressed with the size of the effort.

"You can really see the more positive and sustainable impact on the community," said Colleen Loveless, executive director of Rebuilding Together Springfield. "The way to truly revitalize at city is one house, one by one, block by block."

"I was walking the whole neighborhood," said homeowner Oscar Granado. "You ought to see what it is. It is beautiful."

Both interior and exterior work was done to the 25 homes, with several being converted from oil to natural gas.
