A 25-year-old Gilbert man could face 13 possible felony counts after his arrest Tuesday on suspicion of having sex with a 16-year-old girl he met on the Chandler Gilbert Community College campus.
The girl said she met James Franklin Woollums in February on the community college campus, where she attends high school and some college courses, according to a court document.
The girl said she told Woollums her age when they met, but that he pursued her for a sexual relationship, the document shows. She said the sexual relationship occurred in his car on the campus and at a vacant house in Gilbert, according to the document.
Woollums and the girl communicated through the school's email and chat system and he twice asked her to take nude photos of herself and email them to him, which she did, the documents show.
Woollums' wife told Gilbert police she found chat messages between Woollums and the girl on his computer after his arrest. A cell phone identified through emails sent to the girl was in Woollums' possession when he was arrested, according to the document.
Woollums was accused of nine counts of sexual conduct with a minor, two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of luring a minor for sex, all felonies.
Woollums denied the charges and refused to give police a statement, according to the document.
He is scheduled to appear in court in Mesa on Wednesday and a preliminary hearing is set for May 10.
Woollums has worked at Arizona Olympian Gymnastics in Chandler almost three years, and a background check was conducted by the owners, said Karleen Guthrie of Arizona Olympian Gymnastics.
There were no occurrences at Arizona Olympian Gymnastics, Guthrie said.
