Woman charged after cocaine found in son's system

Posted: Updated:

A Thomaston woman was arrested after police said cocaine was found in her 17-month-old son's system.

Jaime Bennett, 31, said she brought her son to a local hospital after she noticed he wasn't acting like himself. After some tests were conducted at the hospital, the child tested positive for cocaine, according to court documents.

Bennett said she dropped her child off at a babysitter's home the day before, but both the babysitter and Bennett denied a drug test when officials asked them to take one.

At Bantam Superior Court, Bennett's lawyer requested a motion to modify her bail after a drug test she took later found no drugs in her system.

She's now facing risk of injury to a minor and reckless endangerment charges.

She posted $15,000 bond and was given a court date of July 3.
