MGM Springfield receives endorsement from NNCC

Posted: Updated:

Officials with MGM International announced Tuesday that the proposed MGM Springfield has received an exclusive endorsement from the New North Citizens Council to develop a casino in Springfield.

Letters were delivered to Mayor Domenic Sarno and the City Council from the NNCC on June 26 stating the organization supported Sarno's choice for casino developer.

"MGM Springfield conducted their presentation, heard our concerns, and returned to participate in discussions with us that addressed employment; fair market rents; educational development opportunities; as well as social justice issues that will impact everyone in the city of Springfield," Jose A. Gonzalez, Board President of NNCC said in a statement. "We will focus on getting the word to the residents to come out on July 16th and vote yes for MGM Springfield."

Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts President and Chief Marketing Officer and MGM Springfield President agreed with Gonzalez's statement.

"We are thrilled to have the endorsement of the New North Citizens Council," he said. "This well respected community organization has the best interest of the residents of Springfield in mind. We are honored that they believe in our project and will partner with us to bring out voters for a yes vote on July 16."

The proposal for MGM Springfield includes 14.5 acres of land between Union and State Street and Columbus Avenue and Main Street.

MGM is also seeking the sole gaming license in Western Massachusetts.
