The Metro Council took sides in the debate over immigration reform during its meeting Tuesday.
Council members voted to go on record supporting federal immigration reform legislation.
The resolution cleared on the council's consent agenda.
The resolution cites Nashville's fast-growing immigrant community, and fundamental values of Tennesseans as reasons for speedy passage of a reform bill.
A bill made it through the United States Senate last week with the support of both Tennessee's Republican senators. It now moves to the House fore consideration.
