SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Preparations for the annual Star Spangled Springfield were in full swing Thursday afternoon. Crews were busy putting up tents and setting up the sound stage for the Commodores at Riverfront Park.

A small crowd arrived early and one couple arrived at 11 a.m. to make sure they staked their claim on a good spot for the concert and the fireworks.

The Memorial Bridge was closed to traffic all day Thursday so Fireworks by Grucci could set up the show.

Entertainment for the night started with a live performance by Dan Kane's Rising Stars and the Commodores.

Judy Matt, President of Spirit of Springfield said she expected about 100,000 people to watch the fireworks show which was set to music simulcast on Mix 93.1.
