On the third day of school, the Agua Fria School District confirmed a teacher was suspended for having inappropriate contact with a student.
"The range could include anything from inappropriate social media to something more severe in terms of contact," Agua Fria Superintendent Dr. Dennis Runyan said.
The situation was brought to Runyan's attention last Wednesday, the same day the staff member who has been with the district for two years was put on paid administrative leave.
"The Goodyear police take the lead in these kind of investigations. We are honoring that and we are working closely with the Goodyear police in terms of that responsibility," Runyan said.
CBS 5 News learned actions of the same staff member were called into question last fall. After both an internal and police investigation, it was determined there was no evidence to charge the teacher with any wrongdoing.
"Based on the current available information as of this date, there was nothing that would have warranted continuing to work with the teacher in this environment," Runyan said.
