A 44-year-old Mesa man is suspected of using a hidden camera to record pictures of a minor in the bathroom of his home and then creating a video montage.
Brendon Ray Zachary was arrested Tuesday after Mesa police officers served a search warrant at his home.
Zachary's wife told police she found a spy cam in a nightstand of their bedroom, and a blank secure digital (SD) card. She also found another SD card attached to a video game system in their bedroom, viewed the card and saw a video of a minor undressing and taking a shower.
She said she saw other files, but was afraid to view them.
She took the cards, her husband's laptop computer and camera to the Mesa Police Department.
A detective said he found hundreds of images of child pornography on one of the SD cards, as well as the video of the victim.
An ensuing search warrant to unlock the laptop and to search Zachary's residence turned up several other cameras and screw holes in the bathroom wall where a camera had been mounted, according to a court document.
The document shows Zachary admitted to police he created a video of the victim using a montage of photos and that he had downloaded pornographic images and videos of children.
He denied transferring, selling or trading the video he created.
Zachary told police that after downloading the images, part of him knew what he was doing was wrong, but another part justified the act.
He was booked into jail on 10 counts of felony sexual exploitation of a minor, two other counts of felony sexual exploitation of a minor, and two counts of felony unlawful viewing and tape recording of a person.
