Summer lobster bake benefits three Holyoke organizations

Posted: Updated:

Three organizations teamed up to raise money Sunday afternoon and provide good meals in the process.

The first-ever summer lobster bake was held to benefit the Holyoke Winter Carnival, the Holyoke Latin Jazz Festival and Passport Holyoke.

The event was held at Waterfront Tavern on Main Street.

Organizers expected to have 35 people attend, but they wound up selling 80 tickets to the event.

City officials said they have encouraged groups to team up for fundraising purposes.

"With the winter carnival linking up with the Passport Holyoke and the Latin Jazz Fest, they're able to do more as a group than they are as individuals," said Jeffrey Bianchine, Holyoke's creative economy coordinator. "We're excited to see more of that happening. Just more skin in the game and you get more people."

Tickets for the lobster bake were $20 each.

Organizers hope to make it an annual event.
