The grandfather of Gina DeJesus is speaking out on Ariel Castro's jailhouse suicide.
Benny Ruiz, who lives in Florida, says Castro died much too soon. Ruiz says Castro should have suffered, the way his granddaughter, as well as Michelle Knight and Amanda Berry did.
Castro was sentenced to life in prison, plus 1,000 years, for kidnapping and sexually assaulting Berry, Knight and DeJesus while holding them captive in his Seymour Avenue house for over a decade.
The Franklin County Coroner tells 19 Action News Castro used a bed sheet to hang himself in his cell on Tuesday night at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio.
Ruiz hasn't talked his granddaughter or her mother since Castro's death, but he says Gina is slowly adjusting back to her normal life.
"She's doing ok," Ruiz said. "She (Gina) do the cooking with her mother and she's doing ok."
Ruiz also says that both Gina and one of the other victims stay in his daughter's west side Cleveland home. He goes on to say that every once in a while all three get together.
"Out of the three, two are in my daughter's house. Maybe that's the reason they are happy because they're together."
Ruiz says he is encouraging Gina to go back to school and he also wants to take her to Disney World.
