PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A vacant commercial building that was a known hangout for the homeless was destroyed by a fire Thursday night.
A Phoenix Fire Department spokesman said the vacant automotive building near Bethany Home Road and Interstate 17 was a regular place for homeless people to spend the night and firefighters feared someone might have been inside.
After about 50 firefighters put out the fire, and an ensuing inspection showed the building to be vacant after the fire was reported about 11:30 p.m.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire had not been determined.
