Phone scammers claim to be with attorney general

Scammersare using fear to try to con people out of their money.

TheDefiance County Sheriff's Office says the latest in a long line of phone scamsinvolves people posing as representatives from the attorney general's office.

Thesheriff's office says residents have reported getting a call from someone whotells them they're behind on a certain tax, and if they don't pay up, a warrantwill be issued for their arrest. Some people are falling for the story.

"Mymother in law has had to report several scams in the last month or so," saidJan Franz. "It just seems like everyone's always out to make a quick buck offsomeone else, and it's unfortunate that they take advantage of other people."

Sheriff'sofficials say it's important to never give personal information or bankingnumbers out over the phone, especially if you're unsure of who is on the otherend.
