Leaders break ground on new Bellevue library

Posted: Updated:

Construction began Tuesday on a new Bellevue branch of the Nashville Public Library.

The new building will be nearly five times larger than the current Bellevue library, and it will be the first library in the city with a dedicated space for "tweens."

That is partly because of its location, right next to Bellevue Middle School.

"I think libraries add so much to a community and to a city. Its location next to a school, to me, is just great because you want the kids to come over here easily without crossing a street and have access to more books, more reading time, access to computers," said Mayor Karl Dean. "It's going to be a real positive development for Bellevue."

The library will be much more than a place to check out books. Plans also include a walking path, an outdoor classroom and 50 computers for the public to use.
