The parents were the ones doing the learning at Cole Elementary School on Thursday night.
The school has launched a new program through a grant called America's Promise.
Teachers sat down with parents of first grade reading students to teach them how to help their children with sight words at home.
"We're just focusing right now on those foundational skills to help children succeed," said Cristina Smith, family resource coordinator at the school.
Officials call the program the future of parent involvement. They hope to see the program expand throughout the Metro school system.
