Nurse accused of abusing 85-year-old Henrico woman

Posted: Updated:

A certified nurse is accused of abusing an 85-year-old Henrico woman. Valerie Draughn faces charges of abuse of an incapacitated adult and assault.

NBC12 spoke to the victim's family Tuesday night. They said, 85-year-old Genevieve Overman was living under their roof in Henrico for eight years before they decided to hire a nurse.

After Draughn had worked in the family's home for over a year, they told police they came home and found scratches and bruises all over her hands and arms.

According to the Overman family Genevieve was blind, couldn't walk and had dementia. She wasn't able to tell her family what was allegedly happening while under Draughn's care.

NBC12 went to Draughn's home to get her side of the story but no one answered. A neighbor described the 58-year-old as "church-going" and "God-fearing."

Draughn will be in court November 6 at 1:30 p.m.
