Springfield police officer fired after reporting dept. gun stolen

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Springfield police Officer Kevin Merchant has been fired after he reported the loss of his service weapon last month in Hartford.

Police Sgt. John Delaney tells CBS 3 Merchant was fired last week.

Hartford police responded to a Franklin Street apartment where Merchant reported his gun stolen.
