(WMC-TV) - Shoppers at Walmart in West Memphis described it as a madhouse with people being knocked to the floor and people grabbing merchandise out of shoppers' hands. They say it was a wild Thanksgiving Day at Walmart in West Memphis.
"People hitting each other. They knocked a lady down in the floor and grabbed the thing out of her hand," said shopper Niita Kenker recalling the experience.
Crittenden County Sheriff's squad cars lined the front of Walmart. West Memphis police were also there.
"It was mostly in the electronics section. Cops had to go back a couple of times. There was a big mob of people. They were like this ... Punching," said shopper Cecily Cole. "I got scared. That's why we left."
The parking lot was so full it looked like a football game with people parking on the grass.
A lot of shoppers said they just left.
"Me and my son was coming around the aisle by the X-Boxes. Somebody grabbed one and everybody just swooped in. We swooped the other way and kept walking," said shopper Janice Scales.
"I saw one woman fighting over towels. Everybody just started going toward them," said Droniqua Fisher.
Apparently it happened last year, too. This year it was quite the attraction. Some said they moved out of line to see people fight over towels.
Law enforcement said they were just there as a show of force. It does not appear anyone was actually hurt.
