TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) –A litter of puppies was killed in a house fire in Maricopa, Arizona.

The City of Maricopa sent out a news release saying the fire started around 10:15 p.m. at the mobile home, located in the 19000 Block of North Condrey.

Crews say they could see smoke coming from the front door when they got there. They went inside to look for victims, and didn't see any. Shortly after they knocked out the fire, they found a litter of eight puppies in a box.  The news release says they were overcome with heat and smoke and died in the fire.

Investigators say the cause of a fire was an electrical short from multiple extension cords inside the addition.
