Part of Rt. 5 shut down because of pot holes

Posted: Updated:
WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Dramatic temperature swings are causing potholes across Western Mass, including busy Route 5.

Around 10:30 a.m. Monday the Department of Transportation shut down Route 5 in both directions at the North End bridge.

Nearly a dozen cars broke down because of flat tires.

Crews were out in the pouring rain working to patch the holes to make the road safe.

Interstate 91 and I-291 are having problems with potholes as well.

CBS 3 Springfield's Bill Rapp will have a live report on the latest conditions on CBS 3 Springfield News First At 4.
