Holyoke residents awaken to early morning fire

Posted: Updated:

Fourteen people were displaced after a fire broke out in a Holyoke apartment building on Linden Street.

It happened just after 1 a.m. Friday.

Fire officials said tenants were woken up by smoke detectors and everyone got out safely.

They said a fire was found in the basement and it damaged the electrical wiring in the building.
Residents were put up at a nearby hotel for the night.

The Red Cross said they have met with eight of the families affected.

The Holyoke Fire Department and the state fire marshal's office are investigating the cause.
