Students at one local school showed off their science skills on Saturday, as the Hampden Charter School of Science held its fifth annual science fair.
Fifty projects were on display inside the school's gymnasium, being judged by students and professors from several universities across the Bay State.
One science teacher from the school said the event gives his students a chance to show off what they have learned over the last several months.
"Students are benefitting from putting their hands on projects, and they have the opportunity to take what they learn in the classroom and really apply it to a project," said Richard Voltz, a science teacher at the school. "This is where they are shining today. It's going to be a great experience for them to have fun and to also take away something they learned in science."
Some big prizes were available to the winners of the science fair.
Officials said students could win a laptop and other electronic devices.
