FAFSA Day held at American International College

Posted: Updated:

Students preparing to attend college, as well as their parents, were invited to attend a free financial aid seminar on Sunday afternoon.

The 10th annual FAFSA Day program was held at American International College.

The event provided one-on-one assistance in filling out the required "free application for federal student aid."

The program was held in more than 25 locations in Massachusetts on Sunday and additional dates will be available in the future.

The event at AIC opened with remarks by U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, who spoke on the importance of programs such as this.

"College costs today have gone through the roof and in a lot of ways they've come to paralyze parts of the American economy, because students can't be quite as entrepreneurial because they're spending all their time paying down student debt," said Neal.

"It is really important because the money, you need that to pay for college," said Taylor Tragakis, a high school senior from Hampden. "Without it, it'd be really hard to pay for college, and I don't know if I'd be able to without it."

All services offered by the FAFSA Day program are free of charge and available to any student entering college in 2014.
