Super Bowl has football fans scrambling for TV upgrades

With Super Bowl XLVIII less than a week away, football fans are scrambling for the best possible viewing experience.

Choosing a new TV to maximize the experience isn't as simple as picking out snacks and beverages for the game, and there are some things you should consider before making a purchase.

The Best Buy store in Henderson sold hundreds of new TVs this past weekend.

"I know I put out probably like $20,000 worth of TVs on Saturday and Sunday," Best Buy's Dustyn Stanley said.

It's the same story at Fry's Electronics and other retailers. While many people are looking for the best TV, price and size are concerns as well. 

"Everyone is coming in for the biggest, not always the best. You can still get great quality for a pretty good price - like if you go for a mid-level refresh rate. It's crazy how cheap the TVs are now. You can afford a pretty big TV for not a lot of money," Stanley said.

That's what customer Ed Laselle discovered with the purchase of a new 55-inch Samsung smart TV.

"It's a third of the price we paid for the first one," he said.

Laselle had no reason to replace his last smart TV over the holidays, but the Super Bowl changed everything.

"We were going to have to do it sometime this year, but that put us over the edge," he said.

If you're thinking about purchasing a TV online in time for the game, you'd better hurry. Best Buy said time is running out for it to be shipped to your home.

Best Buy also said the number of people who return TVs the day after the Super Bowl has dropped as the price of those sets has come down.
