Armed robber gets away with cash in Springfield

Posted: Updated:

Springfield police responded to an armed robbery at the Tedeschi Convenience Store on Belmont Avenue just after midnight Tuesday, police said.

The store clerk told police that a man pulled a black handgun on him and demanded money as he filled the cooler in the store.

Police said the suspect is described as a black male, about 5'8" tall with a slim build. He was wearing a coat and a burgundy colored scarf that covered part of his face, police said. The alleged robber escaped the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Officers, with the help of a police K-9, tracked the suspect's scent to the intersection of Belmont Avenue and Keith Street. Investigating officers believed that the robber then fled in a getaway car.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Springfield Police Detective Bureau at 413-787-6355.
