Springfield Armor hosts basketball clinic at YMCA

Posted: Updated:

There were plenty of smiles Thursday night at the Dunbar YMCA in Springfield.

Players and coaches with the Springfield Armor hosted a basketball clinic for kids teaching them passing and shooting skills.

It's just one of several clinics the players and coach of the Armor host all year.

Those involved say it's about much more than basketball.

"Really about life skills. Basketball, there's so many parallels between basketball and the game of life. Not all of these kids will go on to become NBA stars but they're all living life," said Kirk Smith, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Springfield.

"Just bring excitement about basketball, you see how enthused the kids are about being here and the Springfield Armor, we're just happy to be a part of it and it's a lot of fun," said Armor Coach Doug Overton.

YMCA officials say there are several more clinics this year with the Armor.
