Mayor Sarno officially endorses Grossman for governor

Posted: Updated:

As Gov. Deval Patrick's time on Beacon Hill winds down, the race for his replacement is heating up.

On Friday Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno announced which candidate he is endorsing.

Sarno sat done one on one with CBS 3 and our media partner, Republican, to say he is endorsing Massachusetts State Treasurer Steven Grossman.

"I know that he'll fight to make sure that Western Mass, I'm bias so I'll always say Springfield, will be represented. There could be a good alignment here," said Sarno.

"To have Domenic Sarno on my side every step of the way is a real gift," said Grossman.

Out of the number of candidates who are hoping to hold the position as Governor, Sarno said he trusts Grossman's ability to lead the Commonwealth

"Steve has been a gentleman who has become friends and he's delivered, " said Sarno.

Grossman said he sees Springfield as a city that is constantly progressing and will continue to do so under his possible administration.

"I will do everything I can to make the people of Springfield whole," said Grossman.

But Springfield isn't the only place Grossman said he'll invest in.

He said Western Mass as a whole will be counted if he is elected Governor.

Some of the topics discussed during Friday's sit down that will be Grossman's main focus are education and business.

"You got so many assets here in Springfield and in Western Mass. From all the colleges including STCC. I'm a big believer in how do you take the assets and maximize those," said Grossman.

It will be some time before we see if Grossman will become our next governor. He has to get through the nomination which will be held Sept. 9, as well as the general election.
